Modern life is heavily influenced by technology, especially in the area of education. In recent years, many schools and universities have undergone a digital transformation due to the COVID-19 virus epidemic, and teachers have been required to be more and more skillful in using modern technological tools. One of these tools are Chromebooks – easy to use, fast, cheap and safe devices that change the way of teaching.

What are Chromebooks?

Chromebooks are laptops that were created in response to special needs of both students and teachers. They are very commonly used in education in many countries such as Sweden, the Netherlands and the USA. They are simple and intuitive to use, and additionally, thanks to the ChromeOS system, they are also very fast and efficient. Thanks to the support of Google Play, the owner of a Chromebook gets access to many applications that can support the educational process, increase student engagement and improve their results.[/vc_column_text]

Why are Chromebooks a good solution for teachers?

One of the most crucial tools a teacher has at their disposal is a computer and it is very important for the computer to meet all the requirements of its user. Chromebooks are very light and comfortable and easily fit into a handbag or backpack, they also have a battery that can work up to 12 hours, offering teachers great mobility and freedom of action. Thanks to the use of SSD or eMMC memory, it quickly copes with the given commands and turns on in 8 seconds, thanks to which the teacher can move between classes without worrying about the delay of classes caused by long computer startup. Chromebooks also have all the ports necessary to conduct classes, including a USB port and a media port.

Unleashing your Chromebook’s full potential

The biggest advantage of a Chromebook is its ability to integrate with Google Workspace for Education. This enables easy access to a wide range of learning tools and applications optimized for performance and saving changes to the cloud and real-time synchronization. Thanks to this, teachers and students can freely share materials and work on them together. Connecting your Chromebook to Google Classroom allows you to seamlessly manage assignments and deadlines, and makes the process of checking homework faster and easier. The integration of these two tools allows you to increase efficiency and save time for both teachers and students.

What to look for when choosing a Chromebook?

Each teacher conducts their lessons in their own way, so each teacher’s needs are very different, and the process of choosing a device can be difficult. That’s why we decided to compile a list of the 8 most important parameters to consider when choosing a Chromebook.
  1. Performance and technical specifications: Make sure what programs you will use and what computing power and RAM they require. Meeting these requirements will ensure smooth operation of the application and Internet browser, especially if you use many tabs at the same time in your work.
  2. Size and weight: Choose a Chromebook screen size and weight that’s comfortable for you for everyday use. Choose a smaller model if mobility is important to you, or a larger one if you prefer a more readable screen.
  3. Screen Quality: If you plan to use your Chromebook for presentations or work with graphics, make sure the screen has enough screen resolution for your needs.
  4. Battery life: When choosing a Chromebook pay attention to the battery capacity and its expected working time on a single charge. As a teacher you will need long battery life on a daily basis.
  5. Work with educational apps: Make sure the Chromebook model you choose is compatible with the educational apps you plan to utilize in your classroom.
  6. Internal storage: Check the internal storage capacity of your Chromebook. Choose a model with the right capacity to easily fit all of your educational materials, documents and media files.
  7. User reviews and testimonials: Read user reviews and professionals recommendations about the selected Chromebook model. This will help you get a better picture of its strengths and weaknesses.
  8. Price: To get the best deal that suits your needs, it’s important to compare costs and models of several products.
